Kayla is a German Shepherd who
doesn't quite realize yet just what
that means. She
is two years old and a typical two year old...
For a
person that is. For
a dog, well, it's hard to say considering she can't
seem to
understand that she is a dog.
She is just now learning that
her size does have.. advantages. The one
dog trait she
does have is
her herding instinct. Ever since she was a
young pup, she has tried
to
herd anything and everything in sight. She will bite at your
feet to
try and direct you
to where SHE thinks you should be going. She is
really smart and learns very
quickly. She understands "most" basic
obedience. Like most two year olds her attention span is
very short.
She
would rather be herding... Tasha around the back yard than
sitting
and staying.
Tasha is her best buddy and mentor. Whatever
Tasha does Kayla has to do too,
but with ten
times the enthusiasm
and energy. Kayla thinks it is her duty to protect me
at
night and she
takes it very seriously. She doesn't sleep in my room but instead
she
will lie in the entrance to the hallway, all night long. Which is a good
thing... as
I
don't have room for another dog on the bed. <giggle>
UPDATE:
Kayla is finding life without Tasha to be a bit confusing.
How do you explain to a dog that relied on her buddy for
strength
and guidance for 5 years that she can now take that which Tasha
taught her and help another new friend? Hopefully in time
she will
see this on her own.
